A fun and fantastic way to encourage your loved one, child, significant other, or friend in their journey to learn piano is to give them a gift to encourage their passion! Some of these gifts will be very useful tools during practice sessions and others will be fun and motivating! Here is Part 1 of my recommendations:
Metronome
A metronome is a device that helps performers to keep a very even tempo as they learn a new piece. Modern bands often us a similar tool during practices and performances called a "click track" that keeps everyone together, particularly on large stages with multiple performers. To learn to practice with a metronome serves multiple benefits! There are free apps such as a "Tempo," but some students prefer the visual and tactile aspect of these metronomes.
Print Music
Many students want to learn to play a music instrument in order to play music they love. The following websites and publishers offer a very wide selection of music in print and digitally. Please feel free to contact me if you need assistance selecting a book or piece that is the right level for your student (current and past students ONLY).
Tote Bag for Music Books & Binder
The following link is for a list on Amazon of tote bags for music students. They are many fun and classic designs. It helps both the teacher and the students for students to have a bag for all of their materials.
Concert Tickets & Season Tickets
An amazing gift of "experiences" for students is a season ticket package to the NC Symphony or other similar series by area performance groups (opera, ballet, theater, etc.) I highly recommend the Clayton Piano Festival and the Young People's Concerts at the NC Symphony!
Miscellaneous Gifts
Metal Music Book Clip and Page Holder - Many print piano books will be difficult to keep open on a music stand. These inexpensive clips are designed to keep music books open while practicing.
Staff Paper Notebook - In lessons, students frequently enjoy learning how to compose and often want to do this themselves without a specific assignment from me! It is so much fun! Staff Paper Notebooks such as this one will give your student a place to write down all of their musical ideas and compositions! This one is a wide-staff version. Other versions are available on Amazon or with other music suppliers.
